THE YEAR 9 ACADEMIC PROGRAMME

1.                  The enhancing academic literacy Programme

Year 9 students undergo intensive tracking for progress in literacy and numeracy. Each student’s skill level in these two domains helps to shape their academic programme. Year 9 students are assessed for their reading comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, and mathematical curriculum level either shortly before they join the College, and/or again in the first few weeks of school.

We use additional funding to resource our excellent literacy development programme, and as such we have been able to have smaller classes at years 9 and 10, for some of the junior school.

We also have two extension classes, one at year 9 and one at year 10.

2.                  Junior Study Group

Each year 9 student will be placed in a small junior study group which meets once a day for 30 minutes. During this time reading mileage, homework, work completion and pastoral care is undertaken. The study group teacher is an important person for a year 9 student, and is often the person who contacts home if there are any concerns. The junior dean is also an important point of contact for home.

All Year 9 students will study:
