Vacancy description:

REGISTERED NURSE

Porirua College is looking for a senior full time Registered Nurse to work with our students and alongside the part time Doctor, in our existing school clinic. The salary range is equitable to the appropriate level of award and clinical and peer supervision will be provided by CCHDB.

 

The service specification for this contract for services is as follows:

 

To improve educational outcomes by overcoming health and social barriers to learning for young people at Porirua College by:

·         Improving access to health and social services for Porirua College students;

·         Improving access to health and social services for students in the Porirua Activities Centre;

·         Formally assessing every Year Nine student with the HEADSS assessment[1] and providing follow-up to ensure appropriate intervention or support;

·         Providing opportunistic screening of all students with the HEADSS assessment and ensuring follow-up for appropriate intervention and support;

·         Enhancing student’s strengths and minimising  risks;

·         Developing appropriate referral processes and enable service shifts on school sites;

·         Facilitating the development of school based services based on students needs, e.g. services for mental health; drug and alcohol; nutrition; weight and exercise; and sexual health;

·         Reducing unplanned pregnancies, reducing incidence of STIs, screening for asthma, diabetes and mental health; vision and hearing; and child protection.

 

The nurse will be working for 30 hours a week, and have the school holidays off. Most of the work will be done during school hours.
